We have investigated this situation, and determined no fault on behalf of BJK during the Finals in regards to their personal electronic devices. As a result, the match will stand.
It is undeniably our error that led to not having a published ruleset for this particular event, and for not adopting some of the anti-cheating standards used in the LCS and other international events. In this particular instance, we should have taken the cell phones from the players, and were incorrect not to do so. Throughout the Finals, before each game, BJK players were required to either turn over or completely power off their phones, and were confirmed to have done so by the referee on stage. Ultimately, we could find no evidence to suggest that BJK gained any advantage from this mistake.
Going forward, we will make sure that all anti-cheating measures are standardized globally so that situations like this are avoided entirely and no suspicion is cast on teams as a result of an operational mistake. Beyond that, we will ensure that we maintain the same commitment to competitive integrity (such as having a published ruleset) in our newer pro regions as we do in our longer-standing leagues, and will more completely adopt their best practices.
We further apologize to the players in the Finals, whose play is now being cast in shadow as a result of an operational mistake on our part.
